How to Get Mechanical Components in ARC Raiders
The fastest, safest way to get arc raiders mechanical components in ARC Raiders is to craft them at a Refiner. At Refiner Level 1, 7 Metal Parts + 3 Rubber Parts produce 1 Mechanical Component. Metal Parts and Rubber Parts are common loot, so this route turns everyday junk into the material that gates your Gunsmith upgrades without risking a raid. You can also loot them in Mechanical zones, recycle spare green weapons and Tier II mods, or pick them up from quest rewards.
Mechanical Components are an Uncommon Refined Material used to craft weapons, weapon mods and workshop upgrades, and they can be recycled back into crafting materials. They sit at the centre of the early progression curve: cheap to make, constantly in demand, and required in quantity before your workbench can move up a tier.

What Mechanical Components Are and What They Gate
Before you spend a single component, know what it is holding back. These are the two workshop gates that matter most:
- Gunsmith 2 requires 5 Mechanical Components, 3 Rusted Tools and 8 Wasp Drivers.
- Gunsmith 3 requires 5 Advanced Mechanical Components, 3 Rusted Gear and 4 Sentinel Firing Cores, per community upgrade guides.
The second gate is why you should never drain your stock completely. Advanced Mechanical Components are crafted from Mechanical Components, so every basic copy you sell or waste is two steps removed from your next Gunsmith tier. If you are still hunting the other ingredients, our guide to Rusted Gear in ARC Raiders covers where that piece comes from.
Recipes can change between updates, so confirm the current costs in-game before committing a large stockpile.
Mechanical Component Stats and Value
| Stat | Mechanical Component | Advanced Mechanical Component |
|---|---|---|
| Rarity | Uncommon Refined Material | Rare Refined Material |
| Stack size | 10 | 5 |
| Weight | 0.5 kg | 1 kg |
| Sell value | 640 Raider Coins | 1,750 Raider Coins (MetaForge database) |
| Recycling return | 325 worth of materials | Not applicable |
The economy here is simple: selling beats recycling if all you want is coins. A single Mechanical Component sells for 640, while breaking one down returns 325 worth of materials, 315 less than its 640 sell value. Only recycle components when you specifically need the base materials back.
Craft Them at the Refiner (The Reliable Route)
This is the route that will unstick your workshop fastest. Build the Refiner in your Workshop first, and upgrade it early, because later Gunsmith tiers depend on its output. The Refiner sits alongside your other crafting stations in the Workshop menu; open that tab, select the Refiner, and its Level 1 screen lists every recipe it can currently produce.
- Gather 7 Metal Parts and 3 Rubber Parts.
- Open the Workshop menu and select the Refiner at Level 1.
- Craft 1 Mechanical Component per set of ingredients.
Both base materials are extremely common. Check car hoods, metal crates, machinery, and general Mechanical, Industrial, Electrical and Technological loot while you raid. Scrappy can bring back the basic materials as a supplement, but do not treat the drone as a direct source of the component itself.
If a bench shows you are missing a material, the crafting screen displays an acquisition prompt next to the missing ingredient. Selecting it shows which refining, recycling or buying routes are available for that item, though not every material is always for sale.
Loot Mechanical Zones Topside
When you are already running a map for other objectives, follow the Mechanical loot icon. Components appear as loose loot or inside containers, but no single spot guarantees a drop. Map conditions, other Raiders, cleared containers and extraction risk all change the result.
Useful Mechanical areas to check:
- Dam Battlegrounds: Primary Facility, Water Treatment Control, Scrap Yard.
- Spaceport: Container Storage, Vehicle Maintenance.
- The Blue Gate: Adorned Wreckage, Checkpoint.
- Stella Montis: Sandbox, particularly the Rovers.
- Riven Tides: Weighing Checkpoint, marked Industrial/Mechanical.
- Pendola Pass: also a Mechanical location (per arcraidertools.com item listing).
Inside those zones, prioritise closed car hoods, mechanical crates, tool containers and machinery. Loot routes pair well with quests you are already running, such as the "Someone Else's Shoes" Quest Walkthrough or the Arc Raiders "Clean Hands" Quest Walkthrough, and the components arrive without a dedicated farming session. For a route built around the same container types, our ARC Raiders Blueprint Farming Guide covers the overlap.
Recycle Spare Weapons and Mods Into Components
Any green weapon, or a white weapon upgraded with Mechanical Components, drops them when recycled. That includes green weapons you buy from Tian Wen purely to break down.
| Item | Recycling result |
|---|---|
| Advanced Mechanical Components | 1 Mechanical Component |
| Motor | 2 Oil + 2 Mechanical Components |
| Anvil I to IV | 2, 3, 4 or 5 by tier |
| Arpeggio I to IV | 2, 3, 4 or 5 by tier |
| Burletta I to IV | 1, 2, 3 or 4 by tier |
| Il Toro I to IV | 2, 3, 4 or 5 by tier |
| Tier II mods (Angled Grip II, Muzzle Brake II, Stable Stock II) | 1 Mechanical Component |
The standout returns are Arpeggio IV and Il Toro IV at 5 per copy.
Salvaging mods is a low-yield but steady trickle. Angled Grip III, Compensator III, Extended Barrel III, Extended Light Mag III, Extended Medium Mag III, Extended Shotgun Mag III and Flow Controller each give 2 per copy, and Horizontal Grip gives 2 as well.

ARC Enemy Drops and Quest Rewards
Bastion, Leaper and Shredder drop Mechanical Components, so treat enemy drops as a bonus rather than a farming plan: the kill rate is unpredictable and the risk is high. Quest rewards provide one-time copies, so do not budget them into a Gunsmith 2 push. Advanced Mechanical Components also drop from the Matriarch and Queen, according to coe.gg's location guide, so big-machine kills are always worth checking after a fight. If you are chasing larger ARC targets anyway, these drops are a natural byproduct.
Upgrade to Advanced Mechanical Components for Gunsmith 3
Advanced Mechanical Components are Rare Refined Materials used to craft advanced blue weapons and to clear the Gunsmith 3 gate.
The Refiner recipe is 2 Mechanical Components + 2 Steel Springs = 1 Advanced Mechanical Component. You need a stack of 5 for Gunsmith 3, which means 10 Mechanical Components and 10 Steel Springs if you craft them all.
Crafting is the deterministic route. Matriarch and Queen drops are the opportunistic one, and both are valid. Remember that each Advanced Mechanical Component can also be recycled back down into 1 Mechanical Component if you overproduce, so the conversion is not a dead end.
Craft, Loot, Recycle or Sell: The Order to Follow
Treat these as a priority list, not four equal options:
- Craft first. 7 Metal Parts + 3 Rubber Parts is cheaper than any other route and carries no raid risk.
- Loot second. Hit Mechanical zones when you are already on a map for other objectives.
- Recycle third. Only break down weapons and mods you were not going to use or sell for a bigger return.
- Sell last. At 640 coins each, components are worth more sold than recycled, but never sell below the 5 you need for Gunsmith 2.
Keeping Your Gunsmith From Stalling
Anything beyond what your next upgrade needs is surplus you can sell at 640 coins each or break down for base materials.
Because crafting at the Refiner is the most reliable route, upgrading it early pays off twice: it speeds up component production and it feeds every later Gunsmith tier.
If you are also collecting the other materials for the same upgrade tier, our guide to How to Get Planks and Sheet Metal in ARC Raiders covers adjacent progression work, and The League Quest Guide covers another source of quest rewards. For everything else on the game, see the ARC Raiders hub.
