Black Ops 2 Zombies Maps: Every Map, Its DLC Pack and How to Unlock It

Call of Duty: Black Ops II has five round-based Zombies maps, and only one of them comes in the box. TranZit ships with the game, while Die Rise, Mob of the Dead, Buried and Origins each arrive with a separate DLC pack. On the PS4 and PS5 ports released July 9, 2026, that structure is unchanged: the store does not bundle the cod Black Ops 2 Zombies maps for you, so you need to know which pack holds which map before you spend anything.

The 2026 versions are native ports converted by Iron Galaxy, not remasters. Campaign, multiplayer and Zombies are all included. The 2026 release is an official digital port of the original experience rather than a remake, and it does not support cross-platform multiplayer matchmaking.

What you need before you start

  • The PS4 or PS5 version of Call of Duty: Black Ops II. The port runs on both consoles.
  • The matching DLC pack for any map beyond TranZit: Revolution, Uprising, Vengeance or Apocalypse.
  • Matchmaking is limited to your own console family, with no cross-play between PS4 and PS5.
  • A squad for the Easter eggs: the main quests are cooperative and require team coordination.
  • Patience for TranZit. The fog, the denizens and the bus schedule make it the steepest learning curve in the mode.

One warning before the map list: the October 12, 2026 update (1.011 on PS5, 1.11 on PS4) was minor technical and UI work with no new content. Nothing in it changes how you unlock a map.

How to unlock any DLC map

The procedure is the same for all four packs:

  1. Confirm the Black Ops II port is installed on your console.
  2. Open the PlayStation Store from the console dashboard.
  3. Search the exact pack name: Revolution, Uprising, Vengeance or Apocalypse.
  4. Purchase and download the pack.
  5. Launch the game, open Zombies and confirm the map appears in the map list.

If a map doesn't appear

Check that the DLC finished downloading rather than sitting queued, then restore licenses: on PS5, go to Settings → Users and Accounts → Other → Restore Licenses; on PS4, go to Settings → Account Management → Restore Licenses. Relaunch the game afterwards.

Start with TranZit and its survival offshoots

TranZit, also called Green Run, is the only round-based map you get without DLC. It is set in a post-apocalyptic American wasteland and runs on a bus route connecting several landmarks, with T.E.D.D. the bus driver refusing to stop on your schedule.

Bus Depot, Town and Farm are separate Survival and Grief arenas built on the same Green Run location, and they are unlocked from the start as well. Nuketown Zombies is the odd one out: it is not part of the four map packs above, so check the current PlayStation Store listing for how it is sold on the 2026 port. It has no Easter egg.

TranZit's signature buildable is the Jet Gun, and opening its Pack-a-Punch is a multi-step process that players often find agonizing. Expect to spend several rounds just opening it. Play this map first anyway, because every DLC map assumes you already understand point management and buildable assembly.

Buy Revolution for Die Rise and the Diner

Revolution (DLC 1) adds Die Rise, set in ruined Chinese skyscrapers, plus the Diner Turned arena.

Die Rise's Wonder Weapon is the Sliquifier. Its layout is vertical, built around elevators, and fall damage punishes careless movement.

The map carries Easter eggs for both the Richtofen and Maxis story paths, so decide which side you are chasing before you load in.

Buy Uprising for Mob of the Dead

Uprising (DLC 2) adds Mob of the Dead on Alcatraz Island, plus the Cell Block Grief arena. The map's cast is voiced by Chazz Palminteri, Joe Pantoliano, Michael Madsen and Ray Liotta.

Its Wonder Weapons are the Blundergat and its Acid Gat upgrade. The unique system is Afterlife: you activate it at set points on the map to open doors and restore power, and it runs on a limited duration, so plan the route before you trigger it.

Mob of the Dead is widely regarded as one of the two best maps in the game alongside Origins, and it is the most common entry point into Zombies Easter eggs. Its setup is longer than a survival map's, so learn the Afterlife routes before attempting the main quest.

Buy Vengeance for Buried

Vengeance (DLC 3) adds Buried, an underground Old West town, plus the Borough Grief arena and the Borough Turned arena.

Buried's Wonder Weapon is the Paralyzer, and its defining feature is Arthur, a friendly giant who clears paths for you. The map is the most forgiving of the DLC set: flexible layout, strong camping spots and a gentler setup make it the best pick for a casual group.

It still carries Maxis and Richtofen Easter eggs, so it counts toward the Super Easter Egg.

Buy Apocalypse for Origins

Apocalypse (DLC 4) adds Origins, set on a World War I excavation site. It is the final and most complex map in the game.

Origins runs on a network of generators, giant robots and the four Elemental Staffs, each with its own upgrade quest. The staffs create real team roles. Panzer Soldats arrive to break up camping strategies, so plan a fallback route rather than holding one corner.

If you want the classic tour in a single purchase, Origins was later remastered in Black Ops III's Zombies Chronicles alongside Nacht der Untoten, Verruckt, Shi No Numa, Kino der Toten, Ascension, Shangri-La and Moon. That bundle is the cheaper route if Origins is the main draw.

Chase the Super Easter Egg in the right order

  1. Pick a side: Richtofen or Maxis.
  2. Complete the TranZit Easter egg on that side.
  3. Complete the Die Rise Easter egg on the same side.
  4. Complete the Buried Easter egg on the same side to unlock the Super Easter Egg.

Completing all three on one side is the full requirement for the Super Easter Egg; there is no additional map to clear afterwards. Do all three on one side. Mixing Richtofen and Maxis steps will not complete the chain. Origins sits outside it entirely, with its own questline and its own ending.

Play the chain in release order so your squad learns each map's buildables before the next one adds more.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Assuming the 2026 port includes the DLC. It does not: the DLC packs are obtained through the PlayStation Store for the 2026 PS4/PS5 release.
  • Buying Apocalypse expecting Origins to be beginner-friendly. It is the hardest map in the game and the worst place to learn Zombies.
  • Skipping Jugger-Nog to save points. It is the priority purchase on every map; everything else waits.
  • Gambling on the Mystery Box early instead of buying a reliable wall weapon you can re-buy ammo for. If you want the full breakdown of which guns are worth the points, see our guide to the Best Black Ops 2 Zombies Weapons to Pack-a-Punch.
  • Expecting cross-platform matchmaking between PS4 and PS5 players. There is none.
  • Trying Easter eggs with a random squad. The steps require team coordination.

Which map to learn first, and what to learn on it

If you play solo, start with Mob of the Dead and learn the Afterlife routes before touching the Easter egg.

If you play with friends, buy Vengeance and use Buried to build the squad's confidence before Origins. Buried forgives mistakes that Origins punishes instantly, which makes it the right training ground for a group that wants to reach the hardest content together.

If you only want the greatest hits, buy Black Ops III's Zombies Chronicles instead and play Origins there. Eight maps in one purchase beats four separate DLC packs if you have no attachment to TranZit or Die Rise.

Whichever route you take, learn one map properly before buying the next. Black Ops II Zombies rewards map knowledge above everything else, and a squad that knows Buried inside out will clear Origins faster than one that has dabbled in all five. For the wider series context, our Every Call of Duty Game in Order timeline shows where this entry sits, and if you ever step back into multiplayer, the Best Meta Ballista Loadout in COD covers the sniper side of the game.
