Warhammer 40K Animated Series: Henry Cavill Exec-Produces Deathwatch Spin-Off at Amazon

For more than three years, the question of whether Henry Cavill's Warhammer 40,000 universe would ever reach the screen has loomed over every announcement, every rumor, and every stretch of silence from Amazon and Games Workshop. The Announcement: A Deathwatch Animated Event Series

On August 3, 2026, Amazon MGM Studios, Blur Studio, and Games Workshop confirmed they are developing a Warhammer 40,000 animated event series. Henry Cavill is attached as executive producer, his most substantial role in the franchise to date beyond the still-gestating live-action project.

The series centers on the Deathwatch, an elite order of Space Marines who specialize in hunting xenos, the galaxy's most dangerous alien threats. For newcomers: think of the Deathwatch as a special forces unit within an already superhuman military, deployed when a threat is too lethal for conventional forces. It is a natural vehicle for high-stakes, episodic storytelling.

Games Workshop offered its own confirmation in a public update: "We have begun work on a full animated Warhammer 40,000 series featuring our Space Marines: Deathwatch."

The project is officially a spin-off of the Warhammer 40K episode from Amazon's 2024 animated anthology Secret Level, a segment widely considered one of the collection's standout entries.
