The Golden Duck: A Hidden Classified Task in Poison the Medicine
The Outlast Trials has developed a quiet tradition: every few months, Red Barrels hides something that the official patch notes never mention. Players found golden seagulls in Pleasure the Prosecutor and unlocked the Golden ESOP. They uncovered a secret puzzle room in Despoil the Auction for the Golden Showers outfit. Now a new classified task has surfaced in Poison the Medicine, the Franco Barbi trial set on the Docks. Hidden somewhere among the shipping containers, catwalks, and staged crime scenes are 10 rubber ducks, and pinging all of them rewards the Golden Duck, a cosmetic trophy for your Sleep Room.
This guide covers the known duck-hunting routes across the Docks, the practical sweep order that works in a normal run, and the tips you need to claim the reward before an Ex-Pop patrol catches you snooping.

How the Hidden Duck Task Works
Poison the Medicine is a The Docks trial that sends Reagents through a grimy waterfront stage. Your main objective is to uncover the correct exit code by examining perspective-puzzle scenes, where numbers appear in segmented image boards only when you look from the right angle. Meanwhile, Ex-Pop guards patrol the area, and you need to evade them long enough to complete the objective and escape.
The duck hunt is completely separate from those main objectives. It is a classified task: find and ping 10 ducks hidden throughout the map. Pinging works exactly like marking an objective. When you ping a duck, it lets out a short quack, confirming that you have registered it. Find all 10 in the same run and the Golden Duck becomes available as a decor item in your Sleep Room.
These ducks are not the same as the golden seagulls from Pleasure the Prosecutor. Those seagulls hung from gantries and rooftops; the ducks are tucked much tighter into the environment. Some are on ledges, some are behind crates, and a few are hidden in the very corners you normally run past while chased. The task is unlisted, so nothing on screen tells you how many you have found until you complete the full set and the reward is granted.

All 10 Duck Locations in Poison the Medicine
The ducks are placed along the natural progression of the trial, from the starting dock to the exit corridor. The safest way to find them all is to sweep the map twice: once as you move through the objectives, and once more after you have the code but before you open the exit door. Community-documented runs place ducks in the following areas.
- The Starting Dock and the Hanging Figures
When you spawn, two hanged men are staged on the metal framework directly ahead. Check the crates beside that structure. A duck is tucked into the wooden pallet stack near the bodies. This is an easy first ping if you take two seconds before moving forward. - The Lower Catwalk Above the Water
As you move toward the container yard, check the railing and the narrow ledge of the first catwalk. Ducks on elevated walkways are arguably the easiest to miss because the camera stays at chest height and players rarely look up. Run along the catwalk while pinging the metal beams below and above you. - Inside the Open Shipping Container
Halfway through the container yard, one container has its door open. A duck sits on the floor, partially hidden behind a pallet. You have to step inside to get a clean ping. If you are running past at full speed, you will miss it entirely. - Behind the Tall Stack of Crates
At the back corner of the container yard, behind a tall stack of shipping crates, a duck sits in the shadow between the crates and the fence. Sweep the corner with your ping to register it without needing to wedge your camera into the gap. - The First Perspective-Puzzle Table
Each perspective puzzle makes you examine a staged scene and read a segmented code from the correct viewing angle. Near the first table, a duck is tucked behind the table legs among cables. Look from the side rather than straight down, and use a quick ping to confirm the exact spot. - The Second Puzzle Room Corner
In the room with the second puzzle scene, check the corner with the barrels and drums. A duck is pressed against the wall behind one of the barrels. An Ex-Pop guard patrols close to this spot, so either clear the area first or wait for the patrol to move on. - The Third Puzzle Scene
The final staged scene also has a duck. Check the corner near the wall panel, where the scene is partially covered by the table overhang. Crouch to catch it; the duck is low and blends into the clutter. - The Upper Gantry Platform
Above the main yard, one gantry has a small platform with a junction box. A duck is hidden behind the box. Use the ladders to reach the upper level and ping the full platform. This is the most vertical search of the run, and also the most likely spot to be overlooked if you only stay on the ground. - The Final Smuggling Scene
After you enter the correct code and start moving toward the exit, check the final staged scene, where the remaining living men appear with exposed lungs used to smuggle heroin. A duck is tucked into the crates near the scene. Grab it before you approach the exit door. - The Exit Corridor
The last duck is just before the exit, in a corner behind a pallet stack. It is the final chance to complete the set, and it is very easy to skip if you are already celebrating the escape. Ping the entire corridor before walking out.
Make the Sweep Count: Tips for a Clean Duck Hunt
- Do the duck sweep after getting the code but before opening the exit. Once the exit is open, the pressure to leave is too strong and you will skip locations. Use the quiet moment after the code sequence to backtrack through the map.
- Use your ping liberally on anything that looks out of place. The ping interaction can register a duck even when it is tucked behind a small object, saving you from needing a perfect camera angle.
- Listen for the quack. Each duck lets out a distinct sound when pinged. If you are not sure whether a spot counts, ping again and listen for the response.
- Play on a lower difficulty or use custom trial modifiers. Fewer enemies and slower detection make the search dramatically easier. The Golden Duck is a cosmetic reward, not a prestige accomplishment, so there is no shame in setting up a comfortable run.
- Use co-op to split the map. If you are playing with a team, assign each person a section of the Docks. When one player pings a duck, the confirmation shows on everyone’s HUD, so the whole group can keep track without overlapping searches.
- Do not leave early. Like other hidden tasks in The Outlast Trials, the 10 ducks need to be pinged in the same run. If you extract first, the progress will not carry over for an easy second attempt.
Ping all ten and the Golden Duck will show up in your Sleep Room: a small, glowing trophy that says more than any patch note. In a game built on running and hiding, the duck hunt is a reminder that the best rewards go to players who stop, look up, and search the shadows.
