007 First Light: How to Open a Path for Greenway in Knightfall - Complete Guide

The Problem, A Door That Won't Budge

After exiting the elevator with Greenway in Chapter 12: Knightfall, set inside Webb Industries, the mission objective "Open a path for Greenway" appears. The door requires executive clearance; Bond cannot open it directly with any gadget, lockpick, or brute force. Common mistakes include standing too close to the door, searching for a keypad, or trying to hack the door itself. None of these work. The solution is entirely indirect.

The key insight is that the game's sensor-based hacking is stricter here than anywhere else. You must approach from the right angle to even see the hack prompt. IO Interactive designed this puzzle to reward observation over brute force, a hallmark of their immersive-simulation pedigree.

Method A, Hacking the Door Sensor & Using the Cleaning Robot

This is the immediate solution for the "open a path" objective. It requires three steps, each dependent on the correct positioning.

Step 1, Find the correct line of sight. Return to the window where Bond originally climbed into the room. The blinds are raised only from that angle, giving you line-of-sight to the small door sensor on the conference room door. Stand near the window entry point; standing too close to the blocked door or on the wrong side suppresses the hack prompt. The game does not telegraph this requirement, which is why many players get stuck. Take your time to align yourself so the sensor is visible.

Step 2, Hack the sensor. Activate your phone-hack tool while aimed at the sensor. The hack completes instantly. You will hear a soft click as the conference room door unlocks.

Step 3, Use the conference room tablet. Enter the now-unlocked conference room through the previously blocked door. Interact with the tablet on the table and select "Request Cleaning." This command summons a cleaning robot from a nearby service closet.

Step 4, Watch the robot. The cleaning robot emerges, travels to the main door that blocks Greenway, and opens it. Greenway will then walk through, completing the objective.

Tip: Avoid calling a robot from the R. Webb Lounge (Method B) before completing this step, only one cleaning robot can be active at a time. If the robot does not appear or gets stuck, wait a moment or reset the area.

Method B, Acquiring Roger Finch's Keycard for Full Floor Access

The sensor-hack opens only the one door for Greenway. To reach the stairway to the Perch (the mission's overall goal), you need level-1 executive clearance. This is provided by Roger Finch's keycard, which also opens the same door for Greenway if you prefer to skip the sensor-hack. Here is how to find it.

Step 1, Go to the R. Webb Lounge. Located nearby, this room has a wall panel (labeled "Room Service" or "Robot Control"). Interact with it. This summons a robot from Faraday's room next door.

Step 2, Enter Faraday's room. The robot will open Faraday's locked door. Walk inside. The room contains some documents and a whiteboard.

Step 3, Find the vent. Look for the whiteboard in Faraday's room. Behind it is a vent. Crawl through.

Step 4, Reach the restroom. The vent exits into a restroom. Kick or break the left stall door, which is marked "out of order."

Step 5, Pick up the keycard. On the floor of that stall is Roger Finch's executive keycard (also referred to as the office keycard). Grab it.

The keycard grants level-1 clearance, unlocking all level-1 doors in Webb Industries, including the one leading to the stairwell up to the Perch. This is essential for overall mission completion. You can do Method A first or grab the keycard first; either order works, but the keycard also opens the door for Greenway.

Bonus, Completing Knightfall's Optional Challenges & Unlockable

The Knightfall mission contains 23 optional challenges, including stealth takedowns, no-alarms runs, and specific gadget uses. Completing all 23 unlocks the white tuxedo outfit for use in TacSim missions. Many of these challenges can be tackled while executing the two routes above. For example, hacking the sensor without being detected counts toward a stealth challenge. Also, using the cleaning robot without alerting guards can fulfill a pacifist objective.

If you miss any challenges on your first playthrough, do not worry. You can replay the mission via Chapter Select to clean up missed ones without restarting the entire game. The white tuxedo is a stylish reward that carries over across all TacSim modes, making it worth the effort.

Making Sense of Knightfall's Puzzle Design

The "open a path for Greenway" puzzle is a textbook example of IO Interactive's love for indirect problem-solving. Once you know that the window-side door sensor is the hackable trigger and that a cleaning robot is your tool, the solution becomes straightforward. Whether you use the sensor-hack method (quick fix for the immediate door) or the keycard route (full floor access), you will have Greenway moving and the Knightfall mission back on track. Do not forget to explore the optional challenges for that stylish white tuxedo reward. And remember: when a door seems impassable, look for a sensor, a robot, or a vent. There is always a way.
