DayZ Server Hosting After Update 1.30 and the Badlands Map: How to Migrate
Update 1.30 and the paid Badlands expansion landed together on 15 October 2026 with a full wipe, so DayZ server hosting now means two jobs: update your files, then choose. Stay on Chernarus, Livonia or Sakhal, move to the new 267 km² Nasdara terrain, or rebuild a modded stack from scratch. Vanilla servers only need the free 1.30 update. Running Nasdara requires buying Badlands on the account that owns the server. Expect animation mods to need replacing, and budget extra RAM, because Bohemia has not published Nasdara server requirements.
If you are weighing up whether the expansion is worth it for your community, Bohemia's launch post and the official patch notes cover the map and what 1.30 adds.

What you need before you start
- A DayZ server already running on 1.29 (13 August 2026), or a fresh install via SteamCMD app 223350 using a Steam account that owns DayZ.
- Update 1.30 (build 1.30.164078) applied. It is free for all owners and required even if you never buy the expansion.
- The Badlands expansion (about $22.49 / £20.24 at the 10% launch discount, from $24.99 / £22.49) on the owning account if you intend to run Nasdara. Frostline and Badlands are also bundled as the Hot & Cool Bundle.
- Access to
serverDZ.cfgandtypes.xml, ports 2302 and 27016 open, BattlEye installed, and a restart schedule in place. - Console admins: a Nitrado rental. Bohemia's official console hosting partner is Nitrado, and console servers cannot load PC Workshop mods. The steps below are written for PC; on console, the map and DLC selection lives in the Nitrado web interface under your server's settings, and mod installation is not available.
Back up your world before you touch anything
- Copy the whole server directory to offsite storage:
storage_1(or your active storage folder),types.xml,cfgeconomycore.xml,serverDZ.cfgand your mod list. - Record your exact mod load order and Workshop IDs. You will need them to rebuild if a mod fails to load on 1.30.
- Keep the backup until the new stack has run clean for at least a full restart cycle.
Note that this backup is archival, not preservation: 1.30 shipped with a full wipe across all platforms, so the goal is a record of your old economy and configuration, not a way to carry your world forward.
Update the server to 1.30 and verify the build
Update through SteamCMD (app 223350) or your host's control panel. The update is mandatory for vanilla servers because it carries base-game content: motorbikes, reworked firearm and asset skins, and quality-of-life changes.
On a fresh install, use SteamCMD app 223350 with an account that owns DayZ, then set serverDZ.cfg and open ports 2302 and 27016 (per VMHeaven's setup guide). Then create serverDZ.cfg from Bohemia's template, set your hostname, passwords and maxPlayers, and launch the server executable with -config=serverDZ.cfg -port=2302 -profiles=<path>. Forward ports 2302 (UDP and TCP) and 27016 (UDP), and confirm BattlEye is installed in the server directory before the first boot.
Confirm the build reads 1.30.164078 in the server console output on boot, or in your host panel's version field, before you announce a reopen. A half-updated server will be running an older build than the 1.30.164078 clients expect.
Bohemia shipped a dedicated Experimental server build (25981616) on 16 October 2026 with a server crash fix. If your server is crashing on start after the update, test against that build rather than assuming your config is at fault. Expect a longer first boot as the new economy initialises.
Decide your DayZ game map before you rebuild the economy
This is the decision that shapes everything else. The DayZ game map you pick determines your loot economy, your mod stack and whether seasonal content runs at all.
- Stay on Chernarus, Livonia or Sakhal if you want the Halloween 2026 event. It runs on those three maps across Steam, Xbox and PlayStation and explicitly does not run on Nasdara or the Nintendo version.
- Switch to Nasdara only if you own Badlands. Nitrado describes it as following Frostline as the game's second expansion, while other outlets count it as the third major expansion after Livonia (2019) and Frostline (2024); ZAP-Hosting calls the 267 km² Nasdara the largest map Bohemia has built for DayZ.
- Rebuild from scratch if you are moving maps. A new map means a new loot economy, not a copied one. Plan a fresh
types.xmlpass rather than porting Chernarus values across.
Worth knowing if your community spans platforms: Is DayZ Crossplay in 2026? Xbox explains why PC and console servers stay separate, which affects who can actually join your new world.
Rebuild types.xml against the 1.30 file diff
A community 1.30-vs-1.29 comparison found 11 changed files, 428 new types.xml entries, 54 changed values and zero removals. The new entries include Nasdara terrain types.
- Diff the stock 1.30
types.xmlagainst your custom file, then copy only the 428 new<type>blocks into your economy. Keep your existing<nominal>,<min>and<restock>values and do not overwrite your file, or you will lose every loot adjustment your server depends on. - Re-check spawn rates for the new motorbikes and reworked skins so they appear at the tiers you intend.
- Use a classname catalogue that has been updated for 1.30 to confirm Nasdara classnames rather than guessing.

Replace broken animation mods
Bohemia warned that animation-related mods may break with 1.30, and its first patch targeted modder-facing problems. Handle the mod stack methodically:
- Load the server with Community Framework only, subscribed through the Steam Workshop, and confirm it boots.
- Add mods back in small batches so you can identify the one that fails.
- Remove or replace any animation mod that has not published a 1.30-compatible version. Do not leave it in the stack and hope.
- Re-test client-side mods with a real connection, not just a server boot, before reopening to players.
Size your RAM for Nasdara without official guidance
Bohemia has not published Nasdara server requirements, so there is no official number to plan against. Here is what the community has measured and reported:
| Scenario | Reported RAM |
|---|---|
| Bare minimum | 8 GB |
| Busy server, realistic target | 12 GB |
| Modded stack (community guidance) | add 2-4 GB |
| Per 5-10 extra players (community guidance) | add roughly 512 MB |
| RespawnHost baseline test (Community Framework only, no players, 12 GB box) | treat as a floor, not a target |
Host plans scale to match. GTX Gaming's 30-slot modded tier lists 12 GB and its 60-slot tier 16 GB, so check the RAM line before the slot count when comparing game servers for DayZ.
Pick a host or self-host on the right criteria
Self-hosting costs only the box: SteamCMD app 223350, serverDZ.cfg, ports 2302 and 27016, BattlEye and scheduled restarts.
Managed PC hosts have already shipped Nasdara support. LOW.MS added a new control panel with full serverDZ.cfg editing on Linux and Windows, ZAP-Hosting published a five-step Nasdara switch guide, Host Havoc added a Badlands map wiki and DZconfig added Nasdara map tiles.
Judge hosts on single-core CPU performance, NVMe storage and server region against your players, not on ranking tables. Comparison sites disagree wildly, claiming anywhere from 32 to 77 providers, and some list zero plans or placeholder pricing. Console players rent through Nitrado only and cannot install PC Workshop mods, so Nasdara on console is a DLC entitlement rather than a mod install.
Common mistakes
- Assuming the wipe was optional. 1.30 wiped across all platforms, and a server that skipped the update will be running an older build than the 1.30.164078 clients expect.
- Overwriting
types.xmlwith the stock 1.30 file and losing a custom loot economy built over months. Merge the 428 new entries instead. - Leaving an animation mod in the stack and blaming the host when the server crashes on boot.
- Planning RAM from a provider's marketing page rather than measuring with your own mod stack and player count.
- Expecting the Halloween event on Nasdara. It runs on Chernarus, Livonia and Sakhal only.
- Looking for admin support on the official DayZ forums, which moved to read-only for announcements and changelogs. Discussion now happens on Discord and social platforms.
Lock in your wipe schedule and mod policy
Publish your next wipe date and map choice to your community soon after the 1.30 migration, so players know whether to buy Badlands. Pin a tested mod list with version numbers, and set a written policy for removing mods that break on future patches.
Then set scheduled restarts and offsite backups, and re-measure RAM and CPU under a full player load before the next content drop. If you want to see how the wider survival genre is shifting around DayZ, the launch-window 10% discount brought Badlands to about $22.49 / £20.24, alongside the Switch 2 version of DayZ and the Halloween 2026 event.
