Short answer: partly. Is Satisfactory crossplay? Yes, but only within two separate pools. Steam and Epic Games Store players on PC share one multiplayer pool, and PS5 and Xbox Series X|S players share a second pool. The two pools cannot play together, and Coffee Stain Studios has stated that PC crossplay will not be added.
That single split is the source of most of the confusion around the game. Some sources call Satisfactory fully crossplay, others call it none at all, and both are only half right. Here is exactly who can build with whom, what you need before you try, and why the boundary exists.
The two-pool system, in plain terms
| Your platform | Can play with Steam | Can play with Epic | Can play with PS5 | Can play with Xbox Series X|S |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Steam (PC) | Yes | Yes | No | No |
| Epic (PC) | Yes | Yes | No | No |
| PS5 | No | No | Yes | Yes |
| Xbox Series X|S | No | No | Yes | Yes |
A Steam player can join an Epic player without issue. A PS5 player can join an Xbox player. A PC player cannot join either console, and a console player cannot join a PC session, no matter which store the PC copy came from.
Before anyone in your group buys a second copy of Satisfactory, confirm which platform each person actually owns. A mixed PC and console friend group cannot be fixed with settings or workarounds.

What you need before your first session
- The game on a supported platform. PC via Steam or Epic Games Store, or PS5, PlayStation Portal, or Xbox Series X|S. The console version launched on 4 November 2025, developed by Coffee Stain Studios with FishLabs.
- An Epic Games account if you are on console. Multiplayer and crossplay run on Epic Online Services (EOS), so an Epic account is required to host or join sessions there. On PC an Epic account is not required to play online, but linking one enables cross-store play with Steam and Epic friends.
- PlayStation Plus on PS5. Sony requires an active subscription for online play on its console.
- The same game update on every machine. Update 1.2 reached the stable branch on 2 June 2026. The console release shipped with Update 1.1 content, and Coffee Stain has said game updates are planned to release simultaneously on PC and console. Keep every install current before you start troubleshooting a failed join.
- A session set to Friends Only or Private, plus a friends-list invite, a shared Session ID, or a direct invitation. There is no public matchmaking and no split-screen.
Setting up PC crossplay between Steam and Epic
This is the seamless half of the system. Steam and Epic clients sit in the same pool, and Steam and Epic players can even share the same dedicated server.
- Link an Epic Games account only if you plan to play with Epic-store friends. A Steam-only group can skip this step entirely; a mixed Steam and Epic group needs the link, and the game prompts you to link an Epic account when you first launch (per XGamingServer's crossplay guide).
- Host: open the in-game Multiplayer menu, choose Host, and set Privacy to Friends Only (or Private for invite-only). Copy the Session ID shown for the session (Coffee Stain FAQ / Satisfactory wiki: sessions use Friends Only or Private privacy, and players join via friends list, Session ID, or direct invitation).
- Joiner: open the Multiplayer menu, choose Join, then either accept the friends-list invite or paste the host's Session ID into the join field. For Private sessions, use the direct invitation instead.
One limit to plan around: there is no cross-progression. A save file cannot be moved between Xbox, PlayStation and desktop, so pick one platform per factory and stay on it. If you are settling in for the long haul on PC, a Satisfactory Blueprint Guide will save you a lot of rebuild time as your factory grows.
Setting up console crossplay between PS5 and Xbox
Console crossplay is officially supported, but the Epic Games account is not optional here.
- Create or sign in to an Epic Games account on the console before you attempt multiplayer. Without it you cannot host or join, regardless of which console you own.
- Confirm PlayStation Plus is active on the PS5 side.
- Host: open the in-game Multiplayer menu, choose Host, set Privacy to Friends Only, and copy the Session ID from the session settings screen.
- Joiner: open the Multiplayer menu, choose Join, then accept the friends-list invite or paste the Session ID into the join field.
Coffee Stain's console FAQ sets out the console build's limits, and a few of them will shape how you plan a factory. Mods and the Experimental branch are not available on console, so keep console factories vanilla. Console sessions are also capped at 4 players, and the larger-group workarounds used on PC do not apply.

Why PC and console stay separate
Coffee Stain's official console FAQ answers "Will cross-play with PC be added to the game?" with a flat "No", explaining that the studio decided "to keep the two ecosystems (Console and PC) separate" so console players can rely on a stable, consistent factory experience.
The technical reasoning is straightforward. PC players can modify the game through config files, mods and save editors, and those changes can destabilise a session to the point of unplayability on console.
It has not been described as technically impossible. The Satisfactory wiki notes the possibility "hasn't been ruled out entirely", but says it would require a custom multiplayer backend and "all hands on deck for a really long time". No date has been announced, so do not plan a build around it.
Content parity, at least, is improving. Update 1.2 shipped simultaneously across all three platforms, and the first paid expansion, Core Values, was announced on 29 September 2026 with a planned day-and-date release on Steam, Epic, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. No date or price has been confirmed. So the Satisfactory plans for new content are platform-neutral even though multiplayer is not.
Matching your platform to your friend group
All-PC group: buy on Steam or Epic, link Epic accounts if the group spans both stores, and optionally run a dedicated server for a factory that persists without a host online. Dedicated servers are PC-only, and console players cannot join them; Coffee Stain says there is no plan to add support.
All-console group: buy on PS5 or Xbox Series X|S, set up Epic accounts, and accept the 4-player cap and the absence of dedicated servers.
Mixed group: no configuration bridges the two pools. Your practical options are to play separately or for everyone to move to the same pool. Remember that saves will not transfer, so a platform move means starting a new factory.
Mistakes that waste an evening
- Assuming "crossplay" means full crossplay. The two-pool split is the single most common source of confusion.
- Skipping the Epic Games account on console. The general FAQ says no Epic account is needed to play online, but that applies to PC. On console it is mandatory.
- Expecting to join a friend's dedicated server from PS5 or Xbox. It cannot be done and there is no announced plan to change that.
- Looking for a public server browser or couch co-op. Multiplayer is invite-only with no public matchmaking planned, and there is no split-screen.
- Planning a save transfer between platforms. There is no cross-progression.
- Waiting on a PC-console patch "soon". The official position is no, with no timeline. Treat any date you see elsewhere as unconfirmed.
Get a working crossplay session running tonight
Decide your pool first - PC or console - then have every player create or link an Epic Games account before the session starts. Host with Friends Only privacy, share the Session ID as a backup to the friends-list invite, and make sure every install is on the same update.
If a join fails anyway, work through it in order: confirm both installs are on the same update, then re-share the Session ID and have the joiner paste it fresh into the join field.
If you are on PC and want a factory that stays online without a host, look into dedicated server setup. If you are on console, plan your four-player roster in advance and keep expectations aligned on mods, since mods are not available on the console release. Get those pieces right and the platform split stops being a surprise and becomes just another constraint to build around, like ore purity or belt throughput.
