How to Get Jimothy for Free in Fortnite
Jimothy is a free Sidekick in Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 4, and you unlock him by completing the hidden quest "Extract A Silly Little Guy" during Fortnitemares 2026. The fastest reliable method is landing at Nightmare Neighborhood, defeating the Freddy Krueger boss for a Dumpster Dive Sprite, then extracting at a physical Extraction Site.
You cannot buy Jimothy with V-Bucks. He is unlock-only, and the Portable Extractor will not complete the quest despite what several guides claim. Verified on Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 4, update v42.30.
What You Need Before You Start
Jimothy's unlock has a few hard requirements. Miss any of them and the quest simply will not trigger.
- Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 4 running update v42.30 or later, released October 1, 2026
- Fortnitemares 2026 active. The event runs October 1 to November 1, 2026
- Access to standard Battle Royale. Reload and Creative do not spawn Sprites or Extraction Sites the same way
- No V-Bucks required. Jimothy is unlock-only and cannot be purchased
- Decent loot. The Sprite source is a boss encounter, so do not drop in empty-handed
For context: Jimothy is a real raccoon with short spine syndrome, the condition that gives him his famously round shape. A video of him went viral in mid-2026, and Epic added him to Fortnite as a free Sidekick. He is cosmetic-only, invisible to enemies, and has no color or style customization options.
Step 1: Land at Nightmare Neighborhood and Find the Freddy Krueger Boss
Nightmare Neighborhood is the Fortnitemares POI where the Freddy Krueger boss spawns. Krueger is the most reliable Sprite source, so this is the route to take if you want the unlock done in one match.
- Drop at Nightmare Neighborhood and scan for a boss marker on your map.
- If no marker appears, do not leave. Players report that Krueger may be disguised as another character or mirroring your own skin.
- Sweep the POI and engage any suspicious characters. Clear nearby enemies first so you have space to move during the fight.
- Defeat Krueger. In standard Battle Royale during Fortnitemares, he drops a Dumpster Dive Sprite.
Epic's official event description notes that Krueger "hides behind a friendly face," which lines up with community reports of disguises and skin-mirroring. If the boss marker is missing, assume he is already in the POI wearing someone else's outfit.
Step 2: Grab the Dumpster Dive Sprite
Krueger's drop is the most reliable source, which makes it the route to prioritize. If you would rather skip the boss fight entirely, Dumpster Dive Sprites also drop randomly from Cheat Codes, regular chests, and Fortnitemares Pumpkin Chests.
Any variant counts. The community has identified several variants, including base, Gold, Loot Hacker, Bounty Hunter, Trick or Treat, and Cheat Master, though the exact number is disputed, so do not chase a specific one. If the title says Dumpster Dive, it works.
Picking up the Sprite is what triggers the hidden quest "Extract A Silly Little Guy." It will not appear in your quest menu beforehand, so do not waste time looking for it there.
Worth knowing: the Dumpster Dive Sprite's ability grants bonus healing from food found in hiding spots, so it carries its own small benefit while you hold it.
Step 3: Extract at a Physical Extraction Site, Not the Portable Extractor
This is where most players fail. There are two ways to complete the quest, and neither involves the Portable Extractor.
Option A: Extract at a physical site. Carry the Sprite to a physical Extraction Site on the map and extract normally.
Option B: Win the match. Winning with the Sprite still in your inventory also completes the quest.
Do not rely on the Portable Extractor. It plays the full extraction animation, which is exactly why so many guides recommend it, but it does not register the quest. Hands-on testing confirms the failure, and the same warning appears across multiple independent write-ups. If you extract with the Portable Extractor and wonder why nothing happened, this is the reason.
The safest habit: check your map for a physical site before you commit to extracting. If you are close to a win, holding the Sprite to the end also works.
Step 4: Confirm the Unlock and Equip Jimothy
Watch for an on-screen notification confirming the unlock. That is your confirmation the quest registered.
- Open your Locker.
- Navigate to the Sidekicks tab.
- Jimothy should now be available to equip.
If the notification never appeared, the quest did not register. Check the troubleshooting section below before you assume the unlock is broken.
Step 5: Earn Jimothy's Follow-Up Rewards
Jimothy comes with three additional rewards, unlocked by completing quests tied to him. The progression is fixed:
| Reward | Requirement |
|---|---|
| Jimothy banner icon | Complete 1 quest |
| Jimothy Heart reaction | Complete 2 quests |
| Celebrity Trash Panda emote | Complete 3 quests |
These rewards are gated by quest completions, not by a spendable currency. The "quests" in question are Jimothy-specific objectives that appear once he is equipped; one example is completing matches with Jimothy as your active Sidekick. The three rewards stack in order, so the banner icon comes first and the emote last.
Troubleshooting Common Jimothy Unlock Problems
No unlock notification after extracting. You almost certainly used a Portable Extractor. Extract at a physical site instead, or win the match with the Sprite in your inventory. Before assuming the unlock is broken, check the Sidekicks tab in your Locker to confirm whether Jimothy is already there, and re-check your quest log for any Jimothy-related entries.
Boss marker missing at Nightmare Neighborhood. Krueger is likely disguised as another character or mirroring your skin. Sweep the POI and engage suspicious characters rather than waiting for a marker.
Sprite did not drop from Krueger. Confirm you are in standard Battle Royale during Fortnitemares. Limited-time modes can disable the boss or alter his drop table, so the guaranteed drop only applies in the standard playlist.
Quest still not tracking after a physical extraction. Restart the match and try again. Hidden quests occasionally fail to register on a single attempt. "Restarting" means returning to the lobby and loading into a fresh match, then picking up a new Dumpster Dive Sprite, since the pickup is what re-triggers the quest.
Worried about the unlock window. Epic has not confirmed a Jimothy-specific deadline. Treat the unlock as tied to Fortnitemares 2026, which ends November 1, 2026, and do not put it off. If the quest disappears with the event, there is no second window.
Other Fortnitemares 2026 Unlocks Worth Your Time
Jimothy is not the only addition this season, and several are worth grabbing before the event closes.
- The Hollow Knight "Knight" Sidekick also arrives during Fortnitemares, but unlike Jimothy it is expected to be a paid bundle. Do not assume it is free.
- Fortnitemares 2026 also features Freddy Fazbear, Beetlejuice, Hazbin Hotel, Slender Man, and Obsession content.
- Complete Jimothy's three quest rewards before November 1.
The pattern with Jimothy is the same one that catches players across Fortnite's hidden quests: the unlock is not listed, the trigger is a pickup, and the completion condition has one specific trap. Get the Sprite, skip the Portable Extractor, and extract at a physical site. That is the whole unlock.
